The Things I Love And Hate About NYU

NYU: The Good And The Bad Of This NYC School

I have said it a million times that I go to NYU. However, I find myself having a love/hate relationship with it. Thinking about it, this list may have more “hate” than “love”, but the I’d say the “love” can really make a difference.

NYU: The Good

  1. My freeride– I am here on a scholarship with a full dorm, meal plan, etc. Is there more to say?
  2. The City- I love knowing that everything I need is so close to me. Plus, I can handle the subway.
  3. Professors- The professors/advisors here are very passionate about what they do. Classes are usually fun.
  4. Student culture/mannerism- The students here are very aware of recent events, their discussion and mannerism is rich.
  5. My Job- I had two jobs this year as an office assistant and I must say my supervisors have been nice and patient with my clumsiness. Plus, they are very laid back making it a perfect first job.
  6. The Facebook memes page- This page keeps me going in my procrastination page. Sometimes you need the humor to keep your lives in check.
  7. Roommate My roommate is literally my best friend. We knew each other since elementary school and NYU was our place to reunite. Plus most of her friends are my friends.

NYU: The Bad

  1. The students- Even though I said I love the student culture here, at times I hate it. NYU is full of liberals including me. But, people can become way too defensive creating tension. Nevertheless, people feel inclined to assume that you’ve “struggled” because you’re a minority. I absolutely hate that. I have my own voice. Plus the humor here outside the memes page is so dry 😒
  2. The rude employees- I would hate being around a bunch of young adults. I imagine that these employees feel that way. However, many times they are downright mean especially the security guards always picking fights. Like fix your attitude once in a while, it will get you farther. The entitlement is ridiculous.
  3. Expenses– Even though I have a great scholarship, unfortunately, others do not. And when you break down the tuition, it is very ridiculous how pricey everything is especially when other schools are cheaper
  4. Party Culture- I’m not a party person at all. I’m more of a nerd who loves to stay inside. But it seems like everyone at NYU drinks, smokes, or do drugs. Over time, I got used to how common it is. Nevertheless, it seems like you have to give into these things to have your big group of friends. Don’t even get me started on the f***boys.
  5. Albert– I hate Albert, the registration site for NYU, so much. Plus, the times they give you to register can screw you over so bad.
  6. Wellness Center- The Wellness Center has a reputation of being….rude. It sucks because many college students go through depression and like I said earlier, if these employees had better attitudes, they could really make a difference. With two suicides that have happened this academic year, you think the services would be better.

Overall, this school has given me so many resources and has made improved my academic journey. But like everything, it still has its major flaws.
