Watch Out For These Natural Hair Scams

There are so many hair scams that claim to make your hair grow longer in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, many women with natural hair are victims of these scams.

The sad reality is that many women with natural hair feel as if it can’t grow or grow long. Often times they become desperate enough to try anything including these hair scams below. Don’t worry I’ve been guilty of this, but let me break it down.

The Benny Harlem Scams

benny harlem is known to do hair scams

If you haven’t heard who Benny Harlem is, he’s basically the face of hair scams. He was basically a model/social media influencer who is known to rocking his natural hair and showing off pictures of his family’s natural hair. After gaining so much popularity, he began selling expensive products that guaranteed long hair results.

People began to say that the products were made from his kitchen and that he only jacked up the prices. People were complaining that they never received their orders, and some photographers even said that allegedly Benny added length to his hair. People went as far to say that the people he uses in his pictures aren’t really his family.

Benny Harlem and the hair scams

Regardless if these products work or not, you DO NOT need to spend $100+ on a single hair item to make your natural hair grow. It’s sad enough seeing these products sold out because there are women conditioned to believe that natural hair doesn’t grow. But, that’s for another blog to rant about. My point is that don’t just throw a bunch of money on products like this especially when there are so many cheaper alternatives. Please, being natural doesn’t have to be this expensive.

These Magic Pills

these biotin pills aren't proven to do much for hair growth. Hair scams?

Okay, it’s one thing if you lacking a vitamin in your diet. However, there are certain pills that promise longer hair such as the infamous biotin pills. I remember buying these pills during my terrible high school years and when I officially started transitioning. They made my nails grow, but my hair wasn’t growing any faster.

In most cases, you are already getting enough biotin in your diet. The pills are just extra. If it works for you, congratulations. But as far as I know, there isn’t hard scientific proof that the pills work.

These “Grow Hair Overnight Videos”

it's a scam to grow like 5 inch of your hair overnight

Now there are a bunch of these videos on YouTube. They aren’t necessarily just aimed at women with natural hair, but I thought why not warn you? Don’t get me wrong your hair does grow everyday, but to get the inches that are posted on these thumbnails overnight is just unrealistic.

Honestly growing hair just like many things takes time. Less manipulation and moisturizing is the key not all these extra “tactics”. I’ve been that girl who wanted longer natural hair in a short amount of time. However, please don’t fall victim to this and definitely don’t give up all your dollars to these hair scams.
