6 Blogging Tips From My 1 Year Blogging Experience

I remember googling a bunch of blogging tips as a newbie. I started this blog a little over a year ago well..because I wanted my voice out there. Whether it came to my opinions or rants, I specifically wanted a blog to share my experience online. The upscale version of a diary.

Now that I am a year in, I wanted to share some blogging tips. I am by no means an expert and I still have a long way to go, but I’ve been scoring great wins blog-wise and most importantly, I’ve been having fun. So here are some blogging tips for first-time bloggers.

1) Open a Business Pinterest Account

When fellow bloggers kept on raging about Pinterest being a powerhouse to their blog, they did not lie. Pinterest is a great way to gain some views that will then lead to your site.

One of the best blogging tips I listened to was to start my Pinterest account.

Tailwind is another great option to find a community of fellow pinners. Though, it is a financial upfront investment.

2) Try To Have A Self-Hosting Platform

Having a self-hosting blog is scary. You have to worry about the security of your site and just like Tailwind, there’s a financial upfront investment. If you are a newbie, it may be wary about spending money for a first time blog. I know I was.

Another blogging tip is to have a great hosting company such as Bluehost.

However, with security plugins and the possibility to grow your site into a business, there are many benefits to self-hosting. Plus, you have total control over the theme and appearance of your blog.

3) Get Google Adsense As Soon As Possible

A few weeks ago, one of my pins has gone viral. It was a HUGE win for me and my small site. I hit over 1000 views in one day for moisturizing natural hair blog. However, because I was never expecting such an increase in traffic, I never bothered to sign up for Google Adsense.

Link your website with Google adsense to make some money.

Although money isn’t the number one reason why I blog, if I can monetize off of a hobby/passion of mine, why not. You never know when your traffic can spike and the more people you have on your site, the more likely your ads will be clicked on.

Don’t make money your number 1 priority though. At least not yet.

4) Engage With Bloggers

When I first opened Twitter only as a blogger, the blogger community was and still is extremely friendly. Although I haven’t been doing the best job at this, leave comments and try to read as many blogs as possible. It will not only help you in gaining some loyal support, but you can always collaborate and learn something new.

Blogging Tips: Engage with other bloggers when you are starting a new blog.

5) Don’t Be Afraid To Explore Your Voice

When I first started my blog, I didn’t really know what to talk about. It took me a while to get into my niche. Even today, I talk about my college experience, rant about current topics, talk about myself and empower black people. Phew, that is a lot I focus on.

But seriously, have fun with your blog. It is your platform and you can talk about whatever you walk to talk about.

6) Do It With A Passion

This is the number 1 blogging tip out of all the blogging tips. When you have a blog, have a goal and fulfill that goal with a passion. Especially if you are a newbie, don’t focus too much on getting views, money, etc. Besides, it’s not a quick scheme to get money. Do it for yourself first and then your audience. It will pay off in the long run.

Passion will lead to success.
